3 or 4 tendrils of similar length and vigour are led clockwise with a slight tension around the wire. The longest tendril must always be first, followed by the shorter tendrils.

All trained tendrils should reach and overhang the horizontal wires. If high winds occur during the period of tendril growth the tendrils will lose their hold on the wires. They are then retrained with the help of forks, ladders and pulpits.
